PROGRAMS OF STUDY & COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Honors (HON)

Once a student successfully completes 108 credits in residency on the Wilf campus and fulfills the 11 requirements of the Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein Honors Program, his diploma will record his completion of the honors program as well as his graduation from Yeshiva College. Most of these 11 components are listed under the various clusters and programs. For instance, the first freshman honors seminar (H1) is normally listed as 1931H under the appropriate discipline within Humanities; the second (H2) is normally listed as 1932H under the appropriate discipline in Yeshiva College. Honors electives and summer experiences are likewise listed under their relevant disciplines. The two senior honors thesis courses and summer experiences are listed in this catalog and in course schedules under HON:

HON 1001H Culture in New York City. 5 credits.
Fifteen cultural events or venues in NYC: museums, plays, concerts, films, etc., five or six devoted to a “specialty” chosen by each student. Journal, final essay, poster, and presentation.

HON 4980H Senior Honors Thesis: Research. 3 credits.
Any student planning to write a senior honors thesis should speak with the director of the Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein Honors Program and with one or two potential mentors before the 10th week of the spring term of his junior year. The application and a preliminary proposal are due the first week of classes. The application and guidelines are available in the office of the director. If enough students write senior honors theses in related fields, a senior honors thesis-mentoring seminar may be set up under this course number or a closely related number.

HON 4981H Senior Honors Thesis: Writing. 2 credits.
A fully revised final draft is due by Monday of the 10th week of classes. Guidelines are available in the office of the director of the Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein Honors Program. If enough students write senior honors theses in related fields, a senior honors thesis-mentoring seminar may be set up under this course number or a closely related number.
