Statistics for Business (STB)
0001 Pre-Statistics for Business. No credit.
A review of computational and problem-solving skills. Presentation of a broad
scope of fundamental concepts in applied mathematics relevant to accounting,
finance, management, and marketing, with examples drawn from different business
disciplines.
1131 Statistics for Business. 3 credits.
Modern statistical methods as a basis for decision making. Fundamentals of
probability, discrete and continuous distributions, data reduction and display
techniques, estimation, regression and correlation analysis, time series. Credit
is not given for both STA 1021 and
STB
1131.
Prerequisite: passing Mathematics Proficiency Exam or
STB
0001.
1456 Quantitative Analysis for Business. 3 credits.
Applications of calculus for solving business problems. Modeling using linear
functions, limits, and asymptotes; techniques of differentiation, rate of change
problems, and marginal analysis; higher-order derivatives and optimization,
techniques and applications of integration as they relate to business. (Required
for Finance majors. May be taken in lieu of
STB 1601 by
other business majors).
Prerequisites: STB 0001,
STB 1131.
1601 Operations Management. 3 credits.
Introduction to the study of operations. Operations Management includes a blend
of topics from operations research, industrial engineering, management,
management science, and statistics. Students benefit from understanding the
fundamental processes involved in both manufacturing and service organizations.
Course emphasizes service organizations and how operations research and
statistical techniques can be used to solve management problems.
